Fall and the Holidays have come and gone, Winter’s chill has settled in, and the warmth of Spring is on the horizon. Through it all, one thing never changes – there’s always something fun going on in Galena! Here’s a look at some of what’s happening in town while Winter winds down:
Mardi Gras Weekend Celebration
Come on down to Main Street for a party that will make you feel like you’re in New Orleans! Start things off with a Mardi Gras Pub Crawl down the Helluva Half Mile on Friday night. Celebrate in style with the Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday, followed by a Masquerade Ball hosted by Galena Brewing Company. Food, drinks, and live music – what could be better?
Galena Goes ‘50s Weekend
Take a step back in time to the fabulous ‘50s with ‘Galena Goes ‘50s!’ Kick off a rockin’ weekend with music by classic rock cover band The Beaux at Galena Brewing Company. Keep things swingin’ on Saturday with dance workshops hosted by professional instructors, and put those moves to work at the Sock Hop at Turner Hall that night with music by Rosie and the Rivets!
St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
Paint the town Green as we celebrate Saint Patricks’ Day! Things get started bright and early with the Shamrock Shimmy 5k run through downtown, starting at the Old Market House. Bring your friends and wear your best Saint Paddy’s Day costume for a chance to win prizes. Spend the afternoon in town and cap things off with the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, including marching bands, parade floats, and more!
Wine Lovers’ Weekend
Welcome Spring in style at Galena’s 11th annual Wine Lovers’ Weekend. The opening Grand Tasting event at Turner Hall is one of the largest indoor wine tastings in the state of Illinois, with over 250 wines to choose from! Shops and restaurants all through town celebrate the Weekend of Vino in their own way, from meal packages and spa treatments to history tours, cooking demonstrations, and more! Visit www.wineloversweekend.com for all the wonderful details.
General Grant’s Home Front
Celebrate the legacy of Galena’s Resident President – Ulysses S. Grant – as the town take a step back to the 1860s for his birthday. Visit the Living History Encampment to see what life was like for General Grant during the Civil War. This weekend includes two Civil War battle reenactments, Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Be sure to visit Sanitary Fair to browse the wonderful handmade items at this Civil War Ladies Bazaar, with profits going to support our troops.
It’s always the most wonderful time of the year in Galena, and there’s always a reason to celebrate. Whatever your celebration, the Lamberson Guest House is happy to host. We hope to see you soon!
